DJ Lady Luck Presents… Mandrill

What’s up, what’s up, what’s uuuuuuuuuuuup, my loyal listeners!

It’s your girl, DJ Lady Luck, back to help you usher in a new month, as well as a new season and a new quarter, in 2017!  And, what better way to do that than with a throwback to some old school FUNK!

DJ Confession: I must admit – this old crew was new to my ears just a week or so ago.  Were it not for my man listening to some random online playlist while deep in a computer game, I may never have heard the first couple bars that sent this band geek (a former trumpet/baritone horn player) scrambling to figure out the name of this group and that tune!

Just thinking about it now, I can imagine the countless HBCU bands back in the day that must have rocked this (or parts of this) composition while in the stands or on the field for  their game day’s main event – meaning, half-time.  Ahhhhh, the memories of old…and of new, as the college football season is now underway.  Who knows – maybe this little broadcast of mine will inspire a band director somewhere out there to dust off the records and rock this joint at a game near you!  [I’m guessing the students will love it!]

So, without further ado, here’s Mandrill with their signature jam “Fencewalk,” from their most commercially successful album Composite Truth (1973):

And on that note…

I’m keeping things short and sweet, so you all can stay groovin’ to the beat. Enjoy!

Peace,

DJ Lady Luck
